Phil Bordeleau is the Director of Sacred Music and Organist at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Denver. He has served in this capacity since 2017. Previous appointments include similar positions at the Cathedral of St Andrew, in Little Rock, Arkansas and Saint Patrick cathedral, Fort Worth, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance at the University of North Texas, and received his Master of Music in Choral Directing at Texas Christian University. He has played pipe organ concerts in major recitals, accompanied silent film classics, trained singers, accompanied operas, musicals, variety shows, and played piano recitals in addition to directing choral ensembles for church and concert performances. His duties at the cathedral include playing organ as primary organist for all liturgical celebrations as well as being the director of the “Concerts at the Cathedral Basilica”, and the director of the Cathedral Choir, and overseeing the cantors of the Cathedral Basilica.

The Cathedral Choir
The Cathedral Choir numbers 20+ singers, comprised of both staff singers and volunteers. The Cathedral Choir sings the gamut of music for the church from chant to modern compositions. Cantors
Cantors in the Cathedral Basilica are music staff professionals; all are degreed musician., The cantor leads the assembly in the role of cantor/psalmist, and leader of sung response. They share duties on a rotating basis at all Cathedral masses, i.e., weekend and holy day masses, funerals, weddings, and any scheduled event requiring the leadership from a cantor.
Sacred Sounds in a Sacred Place
The Cathedral Music Ministry CD is now available!
This CD, entitled, “Sacred Sounds in a Sacred Space” features the Cathedral Choir, the magnificent 1912 Kimball/Morel pipe organ, hymns of the church as sung by choir and congregation, and the contemporary choir. The selections heard are evocative of the experience of attending Mass in the basilica; the four Marian Chants sung at the end of the liturgy are prominently featured, as well as sacred motets in devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and seasonal reflections. Music for Weddings
Prepare for your wedding ceremony's music! All parts of the liturgy are expected to conform to the Church’s standards for noble, sacred and appropriate expressions of prayer and celebration. As such, the music selections will be dependent upon the experience and knowledge of the clergy and staff of the Cathedral.
